Subjects To Be Prepared For Ias Examinations

By Armando Rodriguez

Appearing for the Civil Service Examination and other competitive examination, in order to an IAS and IPS service and also getting recruited to the IFS too is not very easy. UPSC is a government organisation that holds the recruitments are conducted on the basis about impartial examination pattern.

The major problem that almost every candidate has to go through is making the choice of optional subjects. People appearing for the IAS exam already know that the preliminary exam held in the 1st stage of IAS exam comprises of two objective papers, each of them carrying equal marks each, which is 200 marks each. So this has eliminated the thought process of which subject they must choose as an optional subject for the preliminary exams.

In the second phase of the process or the IAS exam, the candidate has to go through the Mains exam of the Civil Service Examinations. Here the Candidate has to appear for 5 papers for the mains exam which is the general studies, essay writing, English paper and one other language that it chooses from the 18 mentioned languages in the Indian Constitution.

General knowledge comprises about information on various factors beginning from, history, culture, languages, religion and so on. General knowledge covers a wide variety and can be addressed on any particular subject.

Earlier the candidates had the liberty to choose the first subject as optional which would be their main stream subject and the prelims exam was found to be mostly covered in it. Moreover they only had to decide on the second optional subject. Currently, every candidate is provided with equal opportunity and equal liberty so they have to take a decision on the two optional subjects for the mains exam with more flexibility and having different criteria in mind. This is also going to determine the chances of the candidate to crack the exams.

Here the marks are divided differently among the papers, the maximum marks that the total papers consist are 2000 and the candidate has to obtain the maximum marks possible. It is important for the candidate to clear the preliminary exams in order to sit for the Mains examination. The marks scored in the Preliminary are just for the qualifying nature and it is not added or considered later in the selection procedure. Once the Mains examination is cleared the candidate then can appear for the Interview or the final phase of the selection procedure.

The personality test or the personal interview is the last stage of the competition and the last elimination stage of the competition. Here the ratio for the selection is 1:2 and the twice the number of seats the candidates appear for the interview. For example there are 50 seats available then a total of 100 candidates are selected for the interview.

Candidates must choose the subject with which there are comfortable with and they can easily understand it. Also you must be careful while choosing the optional subjects too. It is going to decide the candidate's selection in the IAS examination.
